Wait…..a movie that was as good as, if not better than, its hype-stoking trailers suggested it would be?
I am scared.
**** SPOILERS ****
I was disappointed with Force Awakens. It was fun, don’t get me wrong, but it was a mess of ideas, forced nods to the original movies, the unnecessary laying of groundwork for future sequels, that jarring moment when the characters randomly went to a pub in The Shire and the fact Han Solo went out like a total pussy.
It was not a good movie.
The trailers for Rogue One promised to deliver what Force Awakens SHOULD have been: an actual, new story set in the universe we’re familiar with. Not just a hyperactive fan remake of Episode IV.
I dared to hope they would deliver. Usually a mistake in this day and age, given the bucket-loads of tripe we’ve been served in recent years. All the ingredients appeared to be there, but would they have the competence to bring them all together?
In a word: yes.
